VM: Happy Canada Day. Today was what we like to call a down day. We had nothing on the
agenda and nothing specific we wanted to check out. Just go with the flow. After a lazy morning to let HM sleep in and try to combat her cold, we headed out late morning. And while we probably should've been more adventuresome and tried a new spot, we couldn't resist getting one more pastry delight for breakfast.
Canada Day was very low key in Q. City, but our Citadel friends (sans goat) marched to the square. A Canadian family cheered them on. |
Couldn't resist one more Jesuite while we were in Quebec City. The Citron (lemon) tarts were also beautiful. |
After we were fully fortified with sugar, baked goods and coffee, we were on a quest to fulfill EM's two wishes -- a horse carriage ride and hair wrapping. We achieved one of the two goals. Apparently the horses also take Canada Day off just like human Canadians.
Somehow EM finds the patience to sit still for this.

We then trekked to the local farmer's market to stroll and ohhhh and ahhhh over the fresh goods. While we didn't purchase anything, I took a bunch of pictures as it was all just so beautiful. As the day was warm & humid, we opted out to find an air-conditioned restaurant for late lunch. JM was feeling poorly so he chose to go back to our apartment for a lie-down.
Poutine in Quebec City. |
Lunch was at what I would consider a tourist trap spot, but the girls were craving burgers. We Quebecified the meal by trying poutine -- french fries with gravy & cheese. While it sounds gross and doesn't appear much better, HM and I decided that it was indeed pretty tasty. EM gave it a full thumbs down.
EM: The fresh market was cool. The macaroons were amazing here. This is a nice place because you can walk and people are really nice. [VM NOTE: The people are REALLY nice and REALLY beautiful. Can't deny those French genes.]
HM: Day 4 without a phone… *dies* I'm just kidding! The city really is spectacular from the gorgeous churches to the impressive Citadel, the city is truly amazing. Although my favorite stop overall has been The Morrin Center. The library had me drooling and the prison had me shaking. I've had an amazing time in Quebec and I'm totally ready for Maine! :)
Beautiful fare at the farmer's market. |
Another view of the famous Hotel Frotenac. |
